All
In A Days Work is
Bob Baldwin’s
10th solo CD and 1st for 215 Records. The multi-talented
Baldwin, wrote and produced or co-produced all the tracks and
plays piano, keys, strings, percussion, bass, as well as handling
some of the vocals. Baldwin gives us lots of music on
this one – a little over an hour’s worth – with
11 full tracks and two interludes full of intricate percussion.
The
CD starts out with the rolling “A New York Minute,” followed
by the fun, funky and upbeat “All In A Day’s Work” – horns
by Dave Mann and Barry Danielian, then kicks back with the
relaxed groove of “Day-O.”
“Third Time’s
The Charm” is another fun,
upbeat track with a great horn section, followed by the very
groove oriented “Quirky.” Next is the funky R&B
track, “Can You Feel It?” with vocals by Tonni
Smith. With it’s kicked-back, relaxed groove, “Steamy” highlights
Baldwin’s incredible piano virtuosity. Next is “Sunrise,” a
love ballad sung by Zoiea.
“Quality Time” is a
beautiful but too brief acoustic track featuring flutist Ragan
Whiteside. “The Very Last
Night In Rio” fuses jazz with a little Latin flavor and
intricate rhythms and sonic exploration. The last full
track is the slow, simmering groove of “Don’t Get
It Twisted.”
Ending the CD with “Can You
Feel It? (Interlude)” seems
a little anti-climatic musically, but I understand leaving
it with that question. Give it a listen. I think
you will, indeed, feel it.
