It
was a beautiful day in Seattle. Or should I say
a "Sunny" and "Lovely Day." A perfect
day for a drive. Just
me, the open road, and all of my favorite CDs. I can
now add Peter White's Playin' Favorites to
that list.
This CD has been long anticipated by his fans, and it has
been well worth the wait. It contains many of our favorite
songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s played with Peter's own special
flair. The CD starts out with the very upbeat first
single, “What Does It Take (to win your love).” While
I love all of the songs, this one is by far my favorite. If
you love a song with amazing bass, this will probably be
one of your favorites as well. You don't even have
to turn up the bass to the feel or hear the bass in this
song. It's hard to call this song "smooth jazz." Oh,
it's smooth, but it's a toe-tapping, head-bopping song to
be sure. He follows that with two slower, mellower
tunes, the Burt Bacharach tune “The Look of Love” and
adds a very sexy twist to Isaac Hayes' “Déjà Vu” with
guest artist Boney James' sultry saxophone. Then Peter
gets back to more upbeat songs as “Mister Magic” will
bring you back to your disco loving days and “Lovely
Day,” with Jonathan Butler's beautiful voice, will
lift your spirits like only Jonathan's voice can. The
Van Morrison tune “Crazy Love” will bring you
back to the warm summer nights of 1970 – ah, the memories. Well,
okay, I was 10 so I barely remember, but I do recognize this
song. Peter's rendition of the soulful song “Sunny” from
the mid-60s is another tune that has a lovely, deep bass
that you can really feel. You'll be tapping your feet
during “For The Love (of you),” snapping your
fingers during “Hit The Road Jack,” and singing
along with Jeffrey Osborne on “You Are Everything.” And
who doesn't have very fond memories of Hall and Oates and
their song “One On One,” which includes the lovely
trumpet of Rick Braun.
No matter your age, you will most likely recognize most,
if not all, of these songs. It's fun to find these
old songs online and listen to the older versions and then
listen to Peter's versions. You'll hear the genius
in the man from start to finish, playin' his favorites, which
will soon be your favorites as well. This is a CD you should
add to your collection, and you'll love it for many years
to come as you reminisce to favorites from years past.
